Southampton’s Tudor House Museum recently took a step nearer to re-opening with the completion of the first phase of repair and conservation work which will eventually cost in the region of £5.5m. Part of the plan is to completely revitalise the museum’s displays, with a far greater emphasis on the building itself and the people who have lived in it over the last 800 or so years. The new displays will show how the history of the house reflects the history of the town and there are plans to incorporate into the scheme the nearby Tudor Merchants Hall which will be opened as an education centre. The museum is expected to re-open in Spring 2011. For more information about the Tudor House project contact Kevin White, tel: 02380 232810, e-mail kevin.white@southampton.gov.uk. |
